FEATURES
CHASSIS. The truck starts off with a very sturdy monocoque- type chassis made up of several components. The main chassis is constructed out of black- anodized aluminum plate that has been folded into shape by some very powerful machines, and cutouts in the sides of the chassis reduce weight and enhance its look. The rear sec- tion is made out of 3.8mm-thick orange-anodized aluminum
plate that is connected to the
main chassis by four flat-
head screws. Several thinner,
3mm-thick plates complete the
chassis; one in the rear, two in
the center, and one in the front.
A plastic skidplate protects the
rear lower chassis plate and
has a few molded dirt shields
mounted on it to help keep
debris out of the engine. Hori-
zontally fastened body mounts
keep the body in place and
protect the chassis from im-
pacts. Easy-to-remove molded
side dirt shields keep debris
out of the chassis. Up front
are a well-supported skidplate
and bumper that were molded
to resemble the ones used
on full-size trophy trucks. HPI
even threw in molded lights
that can be outfitted with
LEDs, if you choose to do
so down the road. A molded
multipiece roll cage tops ev-
erything off and provides some
support for the body during
rollovers and protects the
engine and muffler.
SUSPENSION & STEERING.
The 5T uses a proven lower
arm with upper-link suspension to control the ride of the
truck, and it’s fully adjustable;
you can change camber, caster
and front and rear toe. Front
toe is adjusted by twisting the
large steering turnbuckles, while
different angled blocks are used
to set rear toe; the truck comes
out of the box with 4-degree
blocks in place. Spacers inside
the front upper arms set camber
