MID-MOTOR LAYOUT. Losi engineers
went with a mid-motor layout that
positions the motor in front of the rear
wheels. This allows for a more scale look
and places more weight towards the front
for more responsive steering. The motor
connects to a simple 3-gear transmission that positions the motor low for an
improved center of gravity. A basic gear
differential is used, and dogbones transfer power from the transmission’s drive
cups to the wheels. The entire drivetrain
spins on ball bearings.
INCLUDED ELECTRONICS AND ACCESSORIES. The RTR version Mini Sprint includes a 2.4GHz radio system. The sport-level transmitter is fairly basic but offers dual-rate adjustment. Since it’s 2.4GHz, you’ll have no worries about frequencies or crystals. The motor is a brushed 280 size, and the speed control features a built-in heat sink and is also LiPo compat- ible. Losi includes a 6-cell NiMH battery and a simple wall charger.
BODY. Knowing that sprint car fans want a realistic
ride, Losi outfitted the Mini Sprint with a body that is
impressively detailed for its small size. The main Lexan
side panels are covered in printed vinyl that effectively
captures the look of a V- 8 race engine, steering and
suspension components as well as a racing paint
scheme. Attached to the body are chrome headers.
The realistic driver adds a nice touch and Losi includes
a full set of full-scale sponsor decals so you can add
your own custom touch.
WINGS AND CAGE. When we think of sprint cars, we
mostly think of the big wings on top. The Mini Sprint
has a wing, and it is adjustable. You can move it forward and back and change the height and angle. The
roll cage is a multipiece plastic design that provides
sturdy support for the wing. The cage includes nerf
bars and a realistic rear bumper setup.
STAGGER. Real sprint cars only
turn left. As such, they run
what is called stagger:
they use a larger outside
rear tire. Losi keeps it
real with this setup
on the Mini Sprint.
The inside rear tire
is about 10mm
shorter than the
outside or right
rear tire. Losi
also knows that
many Mini Sprint
owners will just
want to bash or
cruise around a
parking lot and
rear tire to elimi-
nate the stagger
when the user wants
to turn left and right. The
tires have classic Hoosier-style
tread patterns, foam inserts, chrome faux
bead-locks and realistic wheel disks.
