REPLAY XD CAMERA SYSTEMS How’s your You Tube channel tra;c going? Want more views? Make it easy on yourself and mount one of these weather-resistant RePlay XD cameras sold by Team Associated to your RC vehicle, and get filming. You may be surprised at what you see; with RePlay’s XD and XD1080
cameras, you’ll have a new point of view with crystal-clear image quality. Designed to compete
against the GoPro camera systems, these tube-shaped cams o;er a lighter, less bulky way to film
your RC life. I tested the standard XD, a standard 640x480 camera that’s just slightly larger than
a tube of lipstick, and the larger high-definition XD1080, which looks almost identical in size to a
tactical flashlight. Both cameras enjoyed filming duty on my Traxxas E-Revo Brushless Edition.
Weighing in at 85 grams ( 3 oz.) for the XD1080 and a scant 30 grams (1 oz.) for the standard XD,
these cameras mount easily to any RC vehicle using one of the included mount systems in the
box. ;ese cams record to the included 4GB micro SD card, which equates to two hours of recording time. Should you require more time to create your next cinematic opus, the cams will accept
up to a 32GB micro SD card. Simple on/o; buttons operate the cameras, and I found them easy to
use. Like the GoPro, the Replay XD’s sound reproduction isn’t exactly audiophile quality, but you
can install an optional non weather resistant rear cap with “audio hole” for improved audio performance. Watching the footage on a high-definition television, I marveled at the detail and clarity
these cameras reproduce. Obviously, the XD1080 makes for the finest high-definition video, but
both cameras work well. ;eir “natural” 135-degree field of view distorts the world less than
GoPro’s fish-eye 170-degree lens, which means you’ll have less of the world in the frame with less
wraparound distortion. All I know is that the video footage looks great, the audio quality is decent,
and these two cameras are small enough to mount to a 1/10-scale vehicle without throwing the
vehicle’s CG wildly out of normal. Make sure to check out RCCarAction.com to see the footage I
recorded! —Stephen Bess

DREMEL ROTARY TOOL SHIELD
ATTACHMENT KIT
When using a Dremel rotary tool, you always have debris flying from the bit that you have in
the chuck and no matter how good your safety glasses are some of it seems to find its way into
your eye … or in your hair and other places where you don’t want it to be. With the Dremel tool
shield attachment in place, that’s a thing of the past. To install it on my Dremel, all I had to do was
unscrew the top collar on the tool and screw on the shield. You can position the shield any way
you want, depending on how you like to hold your Dremel. I started o; with the included grinding
stone and the shield did its job well and it was easy to see what I was doing through the clear
plastic shield. I switched over to the cut-o; wheel and again the shield worked as advertised
and I didn’t have to worry about what would happen if and when the cut-o; wheel broke and
exploded. I was most interested in how well it worked while using the carbon steel brush.
No matter how careful I am with them, you always get the small wires flying
everywhere and they get stuck in your hands. ;e shield
not only kept debris from hitting me but
it also kept the wires from the wheel
from my hand and bounced them
back onto my workbench.
