It’s all done! Having the luxury to build exactly what you want in a brushless motor
isn’t something that’s really o;ered these days, until Novak’s Build-A-Ballistic
program. Where else can you get a USA-assembled, fully customized, CNC-machined aluminum canned brushless motor? If it’s a Novak Ballistic, you can. ;is
customization applies not only to 540-sized Ballistics, but also to 550s. What did I
build? A 17.5-turn Red-Wire epoxy-dipped motor with the SmCo rotor, vented end
bells, ceramic bearings, black sleeve, and a 6-inch wiring harness. Once I got the
motor in hand, I installed it into my 2 WD buggy and headed to the track prepared for
an afternoon of driving. One of the upgrades I chose was the SmCo magnet because
of its ability to withstand greater amounts of heat without e;ecting performance. A
few times I found myself driving for over 30 minutes at a time and the only drop in
power came from the voltage drop in my LiPo. Overall, it’s a great idea and the motor
had simply awesome performance.
