PERFORMANCE
I charged up the miniature 120mAh LiPo
battery using the included USB charger and
it topped o; in less than 20 minutes. ;en
it was o; to the track kitchen and living
room for some moto racing. ;e first thing
you’ll notice when you flip the Moto Racer’s
switch on is its jet turbine- sounding motorized gyro. Its high-pitched whine leaves no
doubt that the diminutive gyro is earning
its keep. Just give the bike a gentle shove,
and it scampers away perfectly upright.
Steering the Moto Racer is similar to other
RC bikes, with respect to leaning the bike
and pulling out of corners. A bit of opposite
steering helps pull the bike back up. With
the gyro adjusted to maximum on both low
and high-speed settings, the bike practically
drives itself with only basic steering inputs.
Handling and steering become more reactive
as you decrease the gyro speed, with a trade-o; of decreased stability and more frequent
crashes. For my testing, I kept the gyros
cranked to high.
You would think that low traction, slippery
surfaces would trip the bike up and make
it wash out or crash. ;ink again. ;e Moto
Racer’s electric gyro and heavy-cast front
wheel endows the bike with nearly supernatural balance. On a dusty stone or concrete
floor, I laughed for a continuous 15 minutes as
the Moto Racer would slide, kicking its rear
wheel out in what seemed to be a guaranteed
crash, only to maintain its heading and pull
upright again. Driving an RC bike shouldn’t
be this easy or this much fun. Top speed is
excellent, estimated by Kyosho at 12mph. It
looks and feels much faster, given the tiny
bike’s size. A large area of several hundred
square feet gets eaten up quickly as the Moto
Racer speeds along; I know this because I
was ripping o; sub- 8 second laps on my very
Euro-ish makeshift kitchen to living room
to dining room track. Run time averages
between 8 and 12 minutes, depending upon
how much full throttle is used and the gyro
setting. I highly recommend charging the
120mAh LiPo with the USB charger attached
to a computer rather than the transmitter, as
it will eat up the transmitter’s batteries rather
quickly.
