Current world champion and
Team Associated driver, Ryan
Cavalieri started out with a
trio of first place finishes at
his home track. A break after
a collision with another car
would snap his perfect streak
but he still
looked to be in
a dominating
position with
that round
being a throw-
out. European o;-road champion
and Team Durango driver, Jorn Neumann,
was in second place overall with a handful of
top-three finishes. Team Associated’s Ryan
Maifield and Kyosho’s Jared Tebo were tied
with 13 points after the completion of 2WD
buggy.

track Team Associated’s Ryan Maifield seemed to really
step up his game in 4WD after struggling a bit in 2WD.
Maifield won the first three of his heats in dominating
fashion. Teammate Ryan Cavalieri struggled a bit to get
to the front of the pack after a few bad starts from the
back of the grid. ;e young German, Jorn Neumann really
shined with his Team Durango 4WD buggy. Jorn won
three of his first five heats and put himself in contention to
take the overall win.
;e title came down to the last round of 4WD buggy
where Neumann, Maifield, and Cavalieri each were only a
couple of points apart, had a chance to capture
the title of Reedy Race Champion. Coincidently,
all three of them were in the same heat for that
final round. Maifield started on pole, Neumann
second and Cavalieri had to work his way up
from further in the pack. Neumann patiently
followed Maifield for the majority of the race
and was able to make a clean pass in the
second half of the heat. Jorn was then able to
keep a steady pace and took the crown of 2012
Reedy Race Champion by winning his final
heat and making it four out of five first-place
finishes for his scoring rounds. Quite a feat and
some spectacular driving!

When the invite class broke out their 4WD cars, it was interesting to see that most
of the TLR drivers chose to run the older XX- 4 over the XXX- 4 including last year’s
champion, Dustin Evans. “We wanted to go back to a car that we had great success
with…We were kind of hit and miss with the XXX- 4,” said TLR driver Mike Truhe. Many people were expecting TLR
to unveil a new 4WD platform for the Reedy Race, but all of it was rumors and speculation. Mike said, “Right now,
we have absolutely nothing drawn up …we aren’t even close, so don’t expect anything soon.”
