Pit Tips
STIFF FENDERS
STEVEN CAULKER ›› PERRY, FL
;e fenders on an SCT body are prone
to damage. To keep them from getting
broken over time, I glue cut pieces
of zip-ties to the back of them. ;is
sti;ens them up and keeps the body
from cracking.
CABLE ORGANIZATION
RYAN GABRIEL ››MON TERE Y, CA
Pit areas can get messy with all of the power cords needed
to run battery chargers and soldering irons. To keep my cords
tidy, I use a set of cable clips. ;ey are easy to use and keep
my pit space from being overrun with loose cables.
POT CAR STAND
ROB GUEST ››IRVINE, CA
Terra cotta plant pots make great car stands if you are in a
pinch, especially when they are turned upside down.
MAKESHIFT
TEMPERATURE GUN
JOHN EBERTH ›› SEVEN OAKS, SC
I keep an eyedropper in my toolbox at all
times. If I happen to forget my temperature
gun for my nitro car, I can place a couple of
drops of water on the head of my engine. If
it boils, I know that my engine is at least 212
degrees. In a pinch, it provides a little bit of
data at least.
NO-RUST SCREW STORAGE
KEVIN SMI TH ››PECOS, TX
Steel screws can rust in a damp environment even if
they are in a closed container. I put a small pack of silica
desiccant, like those found in electronics packaging,
inside my screw box. ;is pulls the moisture out of the
air and keeps the screws from rusting.
