FULLY
QUALIFIED
;e ProLite 4x4 is
the first release in
Team Associated’s
new “Qualifier”
series of ready-to-runs aimed at the
incoming hobbyist and
positioned below the
company’s existing
“Race Spec” RTRs
that can be upgraded
to Factory Team
specs. By outfitting
a utilitarian chassis
design with robust
electronics, the new
line of cars promises
to be a durable,
a;ordable, and
entertaining gateway
into radio control. By
the time this issue
was sent to print,
Team Associated had
announced the Apex
Touring, a 4WD sedan
platform mate for the
ProLite 4x4 wearing
an import-style body
and wheels. Future
models are also in the
works to round out the
lineup.
ELECTRIFYING EQUIPMENT
;e stars of the ProLite 4x4’s list of running gear are the XP
SC900 ESC and Reedy 550-SL brushless motor that’s rated at
3500Kv, which provides ample power for multi-purpose o;-roading.
;e new XP2G 2.4GHz system uses FHSS technology for superior signal
strength; its large adjustment knobs are a nod toward simplicity and beginner friendliness,
while the smaller grip
fits more nicely in the
hands of younger drivers. A new metal-gear
steering servo turns the
widely spaced steering
bellcranks and, with the
receiver tucked away in a
protective box, completes
what Team Associated
calls a “water-resistant”
package. All is powered
by the included Reedy
WolfPack 8.4-volt 7-cell
NiMH battery, measuring
in at 3300mAh to stand
up to the juice-hungry
brushless system.
If you were looking to
enter the world of o;-
road racing you wouldn’t
immediately jump into a
Pro- 4 truck and take o;
toward the tabletops of
Lake Elsinore Raceway;
you’d start with a smaller
Trophy Kart and work
your way up. ;e RC
world is the same way;
there’s no better way to
start o; your RC career
than with a tough, fast,
sporty truck like Team
Associated’s ProLite 4x4,
which provides the solid
platform on which to build
familiarity with the hobby
while preparing you
for the thrills of racing
fender-to-fender against
your toughest competi-
tion – even if it’s just in
the backyard.
