CUSTOM 6X6 CRAWLER
OF THE MONTH
OF THE MONTH
DANIEL ANGUI TA ›› BELLEVUE, WA
Giving a 6X6 truck the range of motion to be
a fully capable crawler can be a challenge, but
Daniel wasn’t interested in a shelf queen, so
he grafted two sets of Axial SCX10 frame rails
together with aluminum braces for the truck’s
backbone. It rides on three AR60 axles with
heavy-duty gears and pinions and Traxxas
big-bore T-Maxx shocks. ;e 4-link setup on
all the axles is custom-made using steel tubing
with Traxxas M4 rod ends. ;e transmission
is all metal with HD Axial internals, and Pro-Line Super Swamper tires ride on Alien Tac
2. 2 black-anodized aluminum wheels. ;e
center-axle di; uses a pass-through setup, so
Daniel added a custom anti-torsion “rock bar”
to resist the torque twist that is inherent in that
type of system. Power comes from a Castle
Creations Mamba Monster X speed control
running a 2400Kv sensored motor. ;ere’s also
a powered winch, an ESS-One+ sound system,
and a steering wheel that turns with the
wheels. ;e body uses a Tamiya Bullhead cab,
but most of the rest of the car is custom-built
out of styrene.
FLASH HOBBIES CUSTOM TROPHY TRUCK
JUAN TURCIOS ›› SPRING, TX
Juan’s truck is built around a custom frame of 1/8-inch-thick 5055 aluminum. A friend at Tenth
Scale Lifestyle built a full-metal cage for it. ;e solid rear axle and front A-arms are from Metal
Concepts R/C. Juan made custom faux reservoirs for the Pro-Line PowerStroke shocks in front
and Axial Yeti shocks in back. It uses Traxxas aluminum knuckles up front, and Traxxas aluminum
tie rods (with the anodizing stripped o;) and Nitro Rustler springs. ;e wheels are Method 2. 2
with RC4WD Dune 2. 2 tires. Power comes courtesy of a Hobbywing 4700Kv motor combo running
through an FLM aluminum Traxxas 2WD transmission case and heavy-duty Integy driveshafts.
;e body is a Pro-Line Flo- Tek Ford Raptor.
JEREMY RU THERFORD ›› ST. CLAIR, PA
Jeremy admits that his choice of power for his race
truck might be a little overkill: a Tekin RX8 Gen2 speed
control with a 1900Kv sensored motor. He puts that
power down through Tekno driveshafts to a set of
Pro-Line Caliber tires on DE racing wheels. A set of
RPM front and rear bumpers protects the Pro-Line
Flo- Tek body, which Jeremy treated to a custom
vintage paint job. He tells us he’s been reading RC Car
Action for 30 years, and we love the old-school look!
