The newly formed Chinese Electric Touring Car Championship (CETC) Series kicked off
at the indoor facility in Guangzhou, China, and as you can imagine, it brought together
some of the fastest racers from the Far East and beyond. In the premier Modified Touring
class, it was newly signed Infinity driver Akio Sobue that claimed TQ and went on to
take the win—ahead of fellow teammate and multi-time IFMAR World Champion Naoto
Matsukura. Both drivers are currently driving prototype Infinity electric touring cars as
the company gets ready to release a new car for the class. Serpent’s Viktor Wilck, from
Sweden, rounded out the podium in third.

Held at RC Tracks of Las Vegas—the same track
that hosted the recent IFMAR 1/8 Nitro World
Championships—the 2017 Silver State race brought
together some of the best drivers in the world.
In the premier Pro Nitro Buggy class, TLR’s Dakotah
Phend struck early by taking TQ, but with such close
competition, a win would elude him. Although Phend led
early, it was Mugen’s Ryan Maifield who took the win in
the 45-minute main, with XRAY’s Ty Tessmann in second
and HB Racing’s David Ronnefalk in third.
In the Pro Nitro Truggy class, it was Maifield again who
was looking strong and grabbing TQ, but in the main,
gremlins plagued Maifield’s truggy with a flameout,
moving him back to third overall. Tekno’s Ryan Lutz
didn’t miss his opportunity and took home the win, with
Tessmann finishing up second on the podium.
“Always wash and sauce your tires the same way.
“Always check your ride height and slipper at least every other run to make sure they stay
“Make sure your springs and oil don’t get too exaggerated. Don’t go too thick with oil or too heavy with springs.
“Always check with the fast guys at a track to make sure you are running the best tires.
“Always perform quality practice.
