is a must.
Before race day, rebuild
the shocks and di;s.
Big Fans of the
Ever since Tamiya kicked into nostalgia
mode, we’ve enjoyed a steady stream of
retro releases to take us back to the ’80s
glory days. Tamiya’s newest oldie is the
Blackfoot, a monster hit that got stadium
truck racing rolling back in the day.
I still have mine with old and new mods.
;is was my first-ever RC project!
My very first RC truck. Was awesome…until
the Losi JRX-T came out. ;en I was getting
smoked on the track.
Ah, my first MRC- Tamiya product. Got it
after my Kyosho Pegasus/Icarus.
Lots of racing stu; in the last issue
(and on the cover too). We asked you
to name your favorite things about
chasing your RC buddies around PVC
pipes, and you said…
I race with people aged 8 to 80,
men and women, able-bodied and
disabled. We are all equal.
Name another sport like it.
;e things I like about racing most
are the camaraderie and competitiveness at the track.
What other form of car racing can
you get to race every week or
weekend without needing the
budget of an F1 team?
;e rush you get when you’re in
second on an indoor clay track and
you go for the triple and clear it,
also landing in front of the guy who was
in first place.
Prepare to Win
In this issue, we cover the essentials of race prepping in the feature “How to
Get Your Ride Race-Ready.” We asked what you do to give yourself the best
shot at the checkers. Shout out to Josh Talbot, keepin’ it old school!
Nut and bolt the car.
Ride height. Gear mesh.
Wash and treat the tires.
Clean the comm, oil
motor bushings, check
for play anywhere, and
check that all screws are tight.
I get down on water, grass, snow, and whatever
else my hovercraft will slide over!
I have a Traxxas Spartan but want to get that
new Pro Boat River Jet Boat. Been waiting for a
long time for someone to make one.
Love my boat. Always fun having a change of
pace from dirt and no cleanup. :)
I have an AquaCraft Motley Crew. I love playing in
waves—more fun than smooth-as-glass water.
Water You Waiting For?
Unsurprisingly, a lot of us car guys are also
into boats. We asked you to tell us how you like
to get down at the pond:
I’d have to say the shocks are what play a major
role. ;en, length of travel by using limiting straps,
pistons, oil weight, and springs rate. And then, tires.
Shocks! ;ey are, to me, the most important part
on an RC truck or car. Adjusting them is an art that
everyone should master.
First and foremost, the tires make the truck.
Second is the weight distribution. ;ird is the
power-to-weight ratio. Fourth is a decent amount
of torque in the steering servo.
tires are the
mod you can
Well, if you didn’t, now you know. What other
upgrades do you count on to get the most out
of your machines?
