“Always pay attention to weather conditions, including the time of day.
“Pay attention to the kind of asphalt at the on-road track and if it’s traditional
asphalt or slurry sealed.
“If the event doesn’t specify a certain sauce, make sure you find out from the locals
what they are using and how it is applied.
“Make sure your shock and diff oils are right for the weather conditions.
“Make sure you stay on top of your routine maintenance, especially fragile areas and
the drivetrain since, over time, they will get

and note where the grip level is and where
you comfort level is before you start to push it.
“Have the right mindset. Don’t think you’re going to win every race, but understand that
everyone you are racing against is beatable.

2017 marks the 12th year of the popular
NEO event, and brings together the best
off-road racers from around the world and
is highlighted by the Nitro 1/8-Scale Buggy
class. Held at Harper Adams University in
the western region of England, this year’s
competition, NEO17, once again challenged
the competitors with a technical indoor clay
surface prepped by the DXR club of racers,
and included challenging features like a
crossover, whoops, and jump combinations.
The 45-minute Nitro Buggy final marked the
end of the event, with 16-year-old Davide
Ongaro/Team Associated taking the win from
his third-place spot on the grid. This was even
more impressive considering he made contact
with a lapped buggy that tore the right side of
his Lexan wing off. After some quick driving
improvisation, he settled in and continued
his brilliant performance, which was tested
further when he lost the rest of his wing. This marked another big step in a budding career
for the young Italian driver, who continues to impress and take down some of the biggest
names in racing.
Eric Albano is a talented pro driver from Northern California
that competes in on- and off-road events. Together with his
father, acting as his mechanic, the two can be seen mixing it
up with the very best from around the world. Albano's talents
also extend to his airbrush, and his Lexan artwork is enjoyed
by many racers. We got a chance to get some of his tips here.
